‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 13 preview: A fiery challenge, and who is the favorite?

The field is starting to narrow ever so slightly on “MasterChef” this season, and we really feel like tonight’s episode was ultimately the first time this season that we saw someone go home (in Christopher) who was at some point a major player in the competition. We actually knew him and his story very well, so he could have theoretically lasted a few weeks longer if we were to follow traditional episode.

Going into next week’s heat-themed Mystery Box Challenge, we have in total nine contestants left. While we still feel like Olivia is under-edited, there is no longer a consistent pick for who should go home next. With that said, we do think that there are a small handful of these contestants who are serious candidates at the moment to win: Derrick, Hetal, Claudia, and Stephen. We would be somewhat-surprised if the victor was not one of those four, though we do think that Shelly or Nick or the darkhorse contenders in here.

For the most part, we are still enjoying this season. It has been intense, and above all else there are a great cast of characters. This is what makes this show stand out year in and year out, mostly because of the fact that so much of the rest of the series remains constant every single year … including many of the competitions.
