Why Jack Gleeson won’t watch ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 (or any other season, either)

LogoAfter spending more than a year virtually away from the camera and avoiding press, former “Game of Thrones” star Jack Gleeson does find himself back in the news now as a means to promote his upcoming play “Bears in Space,” a project that he worked on with some of his longtime theater friends. It will be presented at the Soho Theater, just in case you want to check it out.

Probably the most fascinating interview that Gleeson has given to promote this project is with the Daily Beast, mostly because he touches on everything from “Game of Thrones” depiction of violence against women to also why he does not watch the series that made him into a household name for the seasons in which he played the nasty King Joffrey. His answer is fairly straightforward, as he finds it incredibly hard to be committed into a world that he knows is not real thanks to his time on set:

“You know the willing suspension of disbelief, it’s kind of hard to suspend, because you kind of know that the sets aren’t really real, and you kind of know that the actors aren’t really the characters—obviously people know that anyway, but you’re able to convince yourself more when you haven’t actually seen the thing in real life. So I find it hard to watch.”

Gleeson also says that he is getting set to move to London, and that Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger) is the only actor he really sees on an occasional basis due to proximity. He mentions that Liam Cunningham (Davos) also lives in Dublin, but the two had some sort of “falling out.”

We do hope that we see Jack in another TV project again someday, provided of course that he wants to and that it is something that will give him a chance to stretch his wings further outside of playing a villain.
