‘Penny Dreadful’ season 2 finale spoilers: Will Eva Green’s Vanessa be forced to battle herself?

Fans of “Penny Dreadful,” it is almost here! Tonight marks the epic season 2 finale for the drama series, and a chance to bear witness to what will hopefully be an exciting conclusion to this story. Are we going to see some characters deaths? More than likely, but before getting into specifics on an episode we have not seen, let’s talk about what we do know … which includes an insane showdown between Vanessa and basically a “recreation” of herself courtesy of Evelyn Poole. It’s bizarre and certainly fitting of the “dreadful” in the show’s title, but why make this particular move at this time?

As creator / writer John Logan explains in previewing this episode to IGN, one of the great things about this final showdown between Vanessa and the witches is that Eva Green’s character has to conquer something within herself before she can ever really hope to conquer anything else:

“There’s nothing subtle about Evelyn Poole and those witches, so I think fans can expect a rather thunderous conclusion to that story. And I thought it would be a wonderful resolution for Vanessa Ives to have look into the eyes of Vanessa Ives. To face her darkest fears and the enchantments within her.”

Logan also added that there are significant reasons for some of the trappings and the supposed deaths that we have seen so far (RIP Sambene?), and much of that could be a way to add some further weight to this story. Of course, the producers do want to do just about everything that they can in order to ensure that death for some of these characters means something, and it creates that whole impression that no one is safe.
