Is ‘Wayward Pines’ episode 6 new tonight, or delayed because of golf?

Tonight, we firmly expected there to be a new “Wayward Pines” episode on Fox for one simple reason: It’s the summer, and it is not the Fourth of July! That is really the only holiday that does occasionally cause problems for new programming, and there are no Olympics or NBA / NHL Finals anymore.

Well, we and many others probably forgot about golf creeping in here and spoiling everyone’s good time. PGA programming has caused “Wayward Pines” and Fox’s entire lineup to be off the air tonight, and you are going to have to wait until next week to see “Choices,” the next new episode of the series.

We imagine that in most situations, maybe this would not be anywhere near the big deal that it is here. The problem is that Fox has really built up something really great here, and it is courtesy of a super-shocking reveal that Wayward Pines is actually more than 2,000 years in the future. Due to these circumstances, the network is really leaving us off on one of the most brutal cliffhangers imaginable. We are desperate to figure out what is coming up from here, and even those who are familiar with the source material may still see a few deviations here and there. This is not necessarily a show that is always down for a literal adaptation.

We imagine that the next few episodes will be spent building up the mythology, but still expect a definitive end to the first season. While it may be possible to do a second season, the show was designed to stand on its own.
