‘True Detective’ season 2: Latest promo features Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, more drama
After almost hibernating for much of the spring, HBO is finally starting to really gearing up with their marketing campaign for “True Detective” season 2 … while reminding us some of why this show got so much attention in the first place. It is dark, it is gritty, and it is different in some sort of weird, existential sense.
The promo HERE is certainly compelling, even if it is at the same time extremely dark, and fails to really give away much of anything when it comes to the story that you can expect to see from Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and the rest of the cast. We think of it a little bit more as just a series of different snapshots into what different characters are going to be up to. It doesn’t entirely look pretty.
We will say that we have seen some advance reviews that are out there today about the new season, and the reception has not exactly been overwhelmingly positive. We feel part of the problem here is that expectations for this season are probably though the roof, and it doesn’t quite help that critics are making their judgment on something that is better digested as a complete whole. (Then again, if viewers don’t care for the show, why would they keep watching?)
We’re going to judge this for ourselves, but if there is one thing in advance that we would say that we’re really hoping for from this new season, it is that it may actually try to have a little bit of fun at some point. This show tends to avoid that at times like a plague.
