‘Scorpion’ season 2 star Katharine McPhee brings back ‘Smash’ memories in stage performance
Remember when NBC hyped up “Smash” as though it could be their version of “Glee,” and one of the biggest TV hits of a generation? The show had a ton of promise, but there were some issues early on and the ratings were never what many hoped they would be. Still, the show did keep a loyal following, which is why over the weekend Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, and many of the other cast members from the show were able to take part in a concert event centered around “Bombshell,” the Marilyn Monroe musical at the center of the show. The event was held at the Minskoff Theater, with proceeds benefiting the Actors Fund.
In the video below (via Broadway.com), you can see many of the assorted highlights from the show featuring the cast. The theater was packed to the brim with “Smash” fans, excited to see the entire event play out.
Of course, now the cast is off doing a variety of other interesting things. For example, McPhee is now a part of “Scorpion” on CBS, which is premiering its second season this fall. We’re sure that the more that series goes on, the more we are going to see the show try to implement her vocal talents in some way.
Now, let’s just hope that another network does someday try to bring more musical content to TV; the live musicals once a year are nice on NBC, but we’d like to see something a little bit more than that in the “Smash” vein again.
