‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, ‘The Originals’ season 3 writers rooms are in session
There are always many key steps in a path to getting a show on TV. First, it has to be picked up, and from there the showrunners can start to envision what some of their overall ideas are. The writers eventually get together to begin work on scripts, filming starts, and then months later, the season actually begins.
The tweet below from Julie Plec in some ways perfectly exemplifies just how much of a process it really is to land something on the air. Today the writers for “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” are back at work on the respective seventh and third seasons, while the writers room for the upcoming “Containment” is officially over. This means that work is being done now on episodes that are more than four months away. Heck, they are probably already thinking of ideas that will not come on the air in 2016.
While there are many new interesting dynamics and avenues to be explored with “The Originals” (Freya sticking around, seeing if Klaus can ever live a peaceful existence), most of the attention is clearly going to be on “The Vampire Diaries” for its first full season without Nina Dobrev. It will probably feel odd during the writing process, just as it will when the cast returns to work. With Nina, Steven R. McQueen, and Michael Trevino all gone as regulars, we could end up seeing what feels like a very different show. We hope that the writers really embrace that and bring some new layers of fun and intrigue to the mix.
We imagine that many castings and other scoop will be announced in due time, and we’ll have some further news on that moving forward. Stay tuned!
