‘Longmire’ season 4: The latest progress report; the waiting game

Longmire -It has been a while since we’ve had much to share in the way of substantial “Longmire” news beyond the addition of Ally Walker, but we thought that today we could at least take a minute to try to answer a fairly-simple question: How far along is the show in production?

As writer Tony Tost shares in the Twitter image below, filming wrapped up earlier this week on the eighth episode of the season, which means that we’re getting fairly close to the end of the road for season 4. While ten episodes may not seem like a lot, it is equal to the episode order of the first and third season of the show. Also, it’ll actually run longer than either of them given the ability to producer longer episodes on Netflix. This is a luxury that “The Killing” in particular was able to take advantage of when it made the move over to Netflix from AMC.

So why hasn’t there been any news yet in regards to a premiere date? We feel like it is because Netflix is still operating within its current quarter, but we should hear something in the way of official news soon. Since they do operate the binge-watching model, every episode needs to be complete, and that includes post-production work, before they can get on the air. When they do premiere, remember to tell everyone you know to watch live! Netflix has always been somewhat wonky when it comes to sharing viewership data, so it is going to be harder to rally behind specific numbers with this show.

Ultimately, remember that season 4 does not have to even remotely be the show’s final season … but we’ll wait to start some sort of season 5 campaign until we’re a little closer to season 4 premiering.
