‘The Walking Dead’ season 6: Robert Kirkman extends relationship with AMC
When you consider the incredible success of the series, don’t be shocked to learn that Kirkman has agreed to a new overall deal with the network that will allow him to develop some new projects, while also continuing to executive-producer “The Walking Dead,” aftershow “Talking Dead,” and the upcoming spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead.” The deal, per The Hollywood Reporter, excludes Kirkman’s upcoming “Outcast” over on Cinemax.
In a statement announcing this deal, AMC head Charlie Collier had the following to say:
“Robert Kirkman is a remarkable creative talent, a partner and a friend … We at AMC feel so fortunate to be working with him in-house and — beginning this summer, among other shared endeavors — extending our fight against the zombie masses to another major metropolitan area.”
One of the biggest assets that this deal could provide for Kirkman and the network is a chance to think beyond zombies, and help to find the next big hit for both parties. AMC is in an interesting place now with “Mad Men” gone; “Better Call Saul” is tremendous, but it has been years since a new, original property has drawn much commercial success.
