‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, episode 7 review: Did Tyrion and Daenerys finally meet?
These two finally met under the most perilous of circumstances, as Jorah managed to create a perfect situation by slaughtering many within the famed Meereen fighting pits. The irony here is that before Jorah displayed his “gift” to her, Dany was ready to send him away right again after being accused of being a traitor. He is lucky that she never wanted to kill him.
Then, Tyrion introduced himself, and everything most likely changes. How in the world can Dany send the man away after this? She now has the most valuable resource that she perhaps has had to date. (For those wondering, Tyrion and Dany have yet to meet in the books.)
King’s Landing – Remember when Cersei Lannister thought that working with the High Sparrow was a good idea? Well, she may want to rethink that now that she has started to realize the man’s true endgame. Thanks in part to Lancel Lannister selling her out, she is now in the same exact prison that she worked to get Loras and Margaery in. He is a man all about equality, and that includes stripping away the “finery” from the upper class.
Ultimately, this is not going to end well at all.
Dorne – It is easy to summarize the story this time around. Bronn needed the help of the Sand Snakes, who seem to very much enjoy toying with him. Meanwhile, Jaime is still desperately trying to get his “niece” Myrcella back to King’s Landing. Dorne is gorgeous as a location, but it’s not bringing that much to the table yet.
Beyond the Wall – Hey, look at Sam! Who knew that the “Saturday Night Live” sketch about Sam and Gilly being the hottest couple in Westeros would be right? We still did not find a whole lot of this story particularly entertaining, though it is very clear that the battle between Stannis Baratheon and Roose Bolton is looming.
Winterfell – With that in mind, the home of the Starks is trying to brace for something … but only while Sansa continues to be tormented. Not only is Ramsay still treating her terribly, but Reek is refusing to let his inner Theon Greyjoy out.
As a whole, “The Gift” was thoroughly engaging; we specifically wish that there was 10-15 more minutes for the Dany story, and then a chance for some other great stuff from King’s Landing. Grade: A-.
