‘Orphan Black’ season 3, episode 6 reaction: Show boss on Dylan Bruce shocker

Orphan Black -When you look across the majority of Memorial Day Weekend, there is not exactly a whole lot going on when it comes to new TV programming. However, there was an episode of “Orphan Black” that ended up airing on BBC America / Space, and we imagine that it had a shocker in it so big that you do not really need to watch a whole lot else this weekend.

In the end, we had quite possibly the most shocking death of a major character that we’ve seen on the show, given that Paul is no longer among the living as he decides to sacrifice himself by getting in front of the bomb. It’s a heroic move, and one that seems definitive based on what executive producer John Fawcett said to TVLine:

“He blew himself up. I think that’s cool. I like the fact that Paul is a character that we have not really been able to trust. We never knew where we stood with him. Was he a good guy? Was he a bad guy? Why is he doing the things he’s doing? And we’ve come through the last bunch of episodes to realize why he’s making the decisions he’s making. And, at the end of the day, he makes the right choice and heroically throws himself on the bomb. Literally. It was the way we wanted to see that character depart.”

Of course, we never tend to say never with almost any character death on TV, but we’ll have to take Fawcett at his word for now.

For those who were wondering, the plan to kill off Paul here was first cultivated early on during the planning of season 3. While Dylan Bruce knew about it, this obviously had to be a hard day for him. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a character, especially one on a show of this particular quality.
