Billboard Music Awards 2015: One Direction’s Liam Payne thanks Zayn Malik (full winners list)
The 2015 Billboard Music Awards are going to be stuffed full of a variety of big moments, but one of the biggest ones at least for One Direction fans took place near the start of the evening courtesy of Liam Payne. While accepting the award for Best Group (Pop / Rock / Country), he acknowledged departing member Zayn Malik in saying that they “share” the honor with him.
This win is hugely significant for the former “X Factor” stars, given that it marks the first time that they have appeared on an awards show and emerged with a trophy since Zayn made the decision to depart from the group. They have opted to push forward as a foursome, but there has not been any new music released just yet with the band in its new form. They did at least seem to all be in good spirits as they accepted, though Liam and Niall Horan were the only ones to speak out to the crowd.
As for some of the other winners, we’ll be updating them throughout the night.
Billboard 200 album – Taylor Swift, “1989”
Top Male Voice – Sam Smith, who used cue cards in his acceptance speech. He is still recovering from vocal surgery.
Best Rap Song – “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX
Country Artist – Florida Georgia Line
Hot 100 Song – Meghan Trainor, “All About That Bass”
Top Artist – Taylor Swift
New Artist and Male Artist – Sam Smith
Streaming Artist – Iggy Azalea
Social Artist – Justin Bieber
Country Artist – Florida Georgia Line
Dance / Electronic Artist – Calvin Harris
These are some of the major winners, but as you would expect, this was a pretty predictable show as a whole.
