Samantha Bee’s TBS show mocks late-night conventions (video)

We have just a chance to see the first-look promo for the upcoming Samantha Bee show on TBS, and if there is one word that we would use to describe it, it is this: Silly. Also, it makes us smile since it reminds us of the territory that the former “Daily Show” correspondent is heading into. For a while, we at least had Chelsea Handler in the late-night landscape as a popular female host. Since her exit, though, there has been no one else who has really stepped into that position.

This is where Bee looks to change things, even though the first promo below for her show does not make it clear just what the content of the show will be. The only major takeaway is that this is truly a late-night show, which makes us think that it will make an attempt to capture ratings after “Conan” in a way that George Lopez and Pete Holmes failed to do. Her advantage is that maybe Comedy Central fans will come over after Larry Wilmore’s show to check it out.

Obviously, Bee has the skills and the legacy to pull this off. She’s seasoned as a late-night performer, can satirize with the best of them, and she does not take herself too seriously. For her, the real challenge will just be getting the word out, and getting people talking.

Of course, we will have some other news related to this show when it gets a little closer to it airing.
