‘The Good Wife’ season 7: On renewal possibilities, future for Julianna Margulies drama
Tonight, “The Good Wife” is ending its sixth season on CBS, and we are still somewhat surprised by the fact that there is still not an official renewal for the series yet. Do we think that there will be? Sure, mostly because we know that producers are already casting to a certain extent on some of what could be coming up ahead.
So will that renewal come soon? You better believe it, given that the network upfront presentation is now a mere matter of days away! The network will of course be bringing the show back in some form, even if it is just for a seventh and final season.
Critically, there is no question that the show is going to return. All you have to do at the moment here is remember the multiple Emmy victories, nominations, and trophies from other awards shows. CBS does not have many other programs with this sort of acclaim, which is why they will probably continue to keep it going until the story reaches a natural conclusion. At one point, season 7 was projected as a potential end date.
Commercially, that is the show’s biggest concern. The series fell to new lows during the sixth season, and it is probably not one of the network’s most-profitable shows when you think about numbers. Many of the viewers are wealthier (which is certainly nice), but we do get a sense that CBS is looking for shows for the new season that appeal to younger viewers. This is not something that they have always prioritized in years past.
