‘Minority Report’ gets Steven Spielberg stamp; ‘Lucifer’ also ordered from Fox
After some waiting, it seems like Fox has finalized the majority of their pilots for the new season. Good news: One of them is the rare adaptation that we are actually excited about.
Today, it was confirmed that as expected, “Minority Report” has been ordered to series, a move that should allow for the network to have at least one modest hit right out of the gate in the new season. The success of the Tom Cruise movie alone should get some parties interested. Also of note here is the reports per Deadline that Steven Spielberg is going to be an executive producer. Given that Amblin TV is one of the studios behind the show, Spielberg has the right to get this credit on any project; however, he only chooses to on select occasions, and was apparently rather impressed with what was delivered to him here. That bodes well for the future of the series.
It was also confirmed today that underdog pilot “Lucifer” starring Tom Ellis will be airing. The show is somehow strangely a cop procedural starring the devil, who decides he wants to take down bad guys in Southern California after basically getting bored in Hell. It’s a total “what-the-you-know-what” premise, but we like Ellis and Len Wiseman of “Sleepy Hollow” is one of the executive producers on the show. It could surprise in a good way.
“Rosewood” and “The Frankenstein Code” are two of the other dramas currently ordered by Fox, who are going for the most part with genre fare this upcoming season. “Rosewood” is the sole exception as a medical show, and we’re already bored with it and a title that reminds us solely of “Pretty Little Liars.”
