President Barack Obama schedules finale ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ appearance
While much of the remaining schedule on “The Late Show with David Letterman” is already mapped out, it’s pretty clear that there is a little bit of room at times to book new names. It also helps when one of the names that you are booking happens to be the President of the United States.
It was announced today that Barack Obama will be making his eighth and final appearance on Letterman’s show Monday, and this is also his third as President. What is interesting here mostly is the timing. Letterman just conducted his final interview last night with Michelle Obama, which was a lively back-and-forth affair that included her joking that she would help him care for his son after they are done with their respective duties. The First Lady still has a little more than a year and a half to go.
We imagine that there will be a wide array of topics discussed in the interview, including Dave and the President’s futures and also the recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This is the first TV appearance for Obama since scoring laughs last weekend with a sketch involving himself and Keegan-Michael Key. He has always been pretty good at delivering jokes at this event, which is not something that every President has excelled at.
Letterman’s last show will be on Wednesday, May 20, which is fittingly also the final day of May sweeps. Should you even be remotely surprised by that? Here’s a hint: You really shouldn’t be. This is a way to ensure that CBS gets the maximum bang for their buck.
