Could ‘Better Call Saul,’ ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Vince Gilligan get into realm of fairy tales?

Better Call Saul season 1We’ve known for a long time that Vince Gilligan had at least a relative interest in doing some more movie work. He wanted his schedule to be a little looser following “Breaking Bad” for that reason, and to a certain extent it is. He has a full showrunning partner on “Better Call Saul” in Peter Gould, while he really turned over the reigns of “Battle Creek” (which is sure to be canceled, anyway) to David Shore after the pilot.

So what could he have coming up next? How about an adaptation of the classic story of “Jack and the Beanstalk”! According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Gilligan has created an outline for a movie project for Disney, and is tapping Thomas Schnauz of the two aforementioned two shows potentially for the script. He also could end up directing the project, which is something that he did with some “Breaking Bad” episodes (he also directed the pilot for “Better Call Saul”).

This will be something interesting to behold, and it may have us much more interested in a movie adaptation of the story than we otherwise would have been. After all, he’s got a resume of producing great stuff, but never for a younger audience, and certainly never for Disney.

Meanwhile, the second season of “Better Call Saul” should go into production a little bit later this year, and it will most likely premiere in early 2016 on AMC. We’ll most likely have some other news on that as we get a little deeper into production.
