‘Chicago Fire’ season 3, episode 19 video: An unusual way to introduce ‘Chicago Med’

Chicago Med -Dick Wolf loves spinning off his previously-established properties. Want some evidence of that? The fact that “Chicago Med” exists in the first place should be proof of that. Even if it fails to be picked up as its own series, it clearly does still exist, and is something being strongly considered for its own property. The backdoor pilot airing during “Chicago Fire” Tuesday night will be what largely determines its success, whether you are talking about ratings or overall quality.

What we will say here right now is that the show is taking both an interesting and surprising approach in how they are choosing to bring in these characters into the world of the show. An explosion rocks the hospital, and the fire and paramedics are going to need to do what they can to ensure that nobody leaves. There’s a threat of chemical warfare here, and this hospital could end up turning into a real-life version of “The Walking Dead” if they’re not careful with how to proceed.

What makes this so interesting is that rather than giving us a straightforward introduction to these characters and what they do on a daily basis, you are instead putting them into a one-in-a-million scenario where their backs are truly against the wall. It’s going to be hard to get to know anyone in the midst of the panic and the pain that is going on here. Instead of trying to function like a normal person would, they may be instead just trying to survive and ensure their patients do in the same way.

Then again, you also had to create a situation here that would keep the members of the FD around long enough so that you could get to know the doctors and nurses more. There are not many other situations where this would happen longer than a few minutes. This does seem like an exciting pilot … or at least an exciting 30 seconds. We’ll see what happens when this airs.
