‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Dwayne Johnson decent, but not rock-solid in viewers

Anyone who did not watch last night’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” completely missed out. Dwayne Johnson once again proved that he is so much more than just a wrestling icon; he’s legitimately funny, and completely game for anything which usually results in some of the best “Saturday Night Live” episodes. This show had two of the best sketches of the entire season only a few minutes apart: The wrestling promo sketch with Bobby Moynihan, and then the Indiana Jones spoof with Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson.

If you didn’t get a chance to watch the episode, we’ve got full videos of every sketch now over at the link here, but in this article we’re here to discuss the ratings. This episode drew a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is on the lower end of the spectrum for the season. What happened here? We’re willing to put our thinking cap on here to come up with a few explanations.

1. Everyone was at their College Basketball party, drinking their sorrows away after betting way too much money on their bracket.

2. It has been a long time since Johnson was on “SNL,” so some viewers out there may have forgotten just how brilliantly funny the guy is.

3. It’s a weekend right around spring break. Drinking, parties, junk food and debauchery are a foot for many and staying in to watch TV isn’t a top priority.

Next weekend, the show will get a chance to do this all over again when Michael Keaton hosts for the first time in two decades alongside musical guest Carly Rae Jepsen. Suddenly, we’re feeling really bad for him that he has to follow this episode up since it was one of our favorites. Maybe he can film all of “SNL” in one take! Oh wait, they’ve already done a “Birdman” parody. We’ve got no clue what the show is going to do here, but Michael Keaton is so fantastic that we know he will be up for whatever they throw at him.
