‘Sherlock’ season 4 spoilers: Some early torment via Steven Moffat
While “Sherlock” has spent most of 2014 filming an upcoming special, it is certainly fair to say that you will still be waiting a while for the rest of season 4. As a matter of fact, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss (a.k.a. the gurus of this brilliant BBC show) have not even begun writing these three presumed 90-minute installments.
Yet, this is not stopping Moffat from driving you up-the-wall insane with some early details about the show! We’re not so much talking about plot spoilers here as emotional spoilers, provided that this is of course a thing. He knows that he has himself a series that is immensely popular, and fans will hang on to every word as though it’s gospel. Here is exhibit A for the man’s brilliant brand of fan torment:
“There are answers coming to questions which nobody has asked. There’s one thing that no one has really brought up…”
How about exhibit B? There’s this:
“We’re certainly going to put them through the mill. It’s going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times. Maybe that’s the word? A tougher series.”
Moffat added to his interview with Entertainment Weekly that this season may make fans “desperate” for a fifth season (like we weren’t already desperate for a fifth, sixth and seventh season), which is probably the first thing about the show that’s made us hyperventilate all year, given that this means he wants to make more. Our recurring daydream (or day-nightmare we should say) is that someone, whether it be Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, or one of the two gurus decides that they want to do something else and kiss Holmes and Watson goodbye.
The aforementioned special should premiere later this year … in the UK, anyway. Making US fans wait for a later air date is another form of torment.
