Jason Jones says goodbye to ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ (video)
After ten years on “The Daily Show,” Jason Jones said goodbye last night with a segment that was pretty sweet, and also a reminder of all of the crazy work that he put in to this show over the years. Jon Stewart ran an extended montage of some of his best moments, and what was fun about this specifically was that while the majority of the show’s correspondents only pretend to go places while standing in front of a green screen, Jason actually did. We saw him in Iran, in Russia, and in various other parts of the world discussing America and trying to bring a new point of view. He always kept things fun and funny every step of the way.
Ultimately, Jones may be the unsung hero of the show in many ways. While Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and even his own wife Samantha Bee at times get more attention for the work they’ve done, he has actually done more field pieces than anyone else in the history of the show.
So why is Jones leaving now? It is because he has a new show that is coming over at TBS, the same network that also hired Bee recently to develop a show of her own. There was suspicion at one point that one of these two could become the new host of the series, but that ended up not coming to pass.
Bee will be departing Stewart’s show at some point in the months ahead, so we expect an equally emotional farewell then. Hopefully, at some point Comedy Central will actually decide on a replacement, as well.
