‘Supergirl’ spoilers: ‘Mentalist’ alum cast as first villain

Every hero needs a villain, but the first villain is admittedly not always one that you tend to remember. No show wants to give away some of their biggest adversaries right away, and instead, they wait a while before starting to unveil just who their main characters are up against.

Could this be the case for the upcoming CBS adaptation of “Supergirl”? It sure feels like it right now. In news that was first reported over on i09, Owain Yeoman, who you probably know best for playing the role of Rigsby on “The Mentalist,” has been brought on board here to be the first real villain for the show. What do we know about him? It is as simple as this. He will be playing the part of Vartox, an alien with powers of his own who has been hiding out on earth for most of the past 12 years. Once he learns that there is someone out there in Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) with the capability for something more, the two eventually engage in battle.

Yeoman is a good person for this part, mostly because we know his talent, and this is also something that is completely different and therefore exciting in comparison to everything that he has done before.

The pilot for “Supergirl” has been in production for most of the month. CBS has already shown enough confidence to order the show, so hopefully we are going to have a complete opportunity to see it on the air this fall. We should also have a whole lot more in the way of casting news long before then, given that there is much more to be filmed.
