‘Looking’ canceled by HBO; ‘season 3’ will be TV movie

The latest -Well, wasn’t this a quick turnaround for HBO and “Looking“? Right when we were hearing that the future for the series was somewhat up in the air, we also now are getting notification that the show is in fact ending after just two seasons on the air. With that being said, there is still a silver lining in that you will get an end to Patrick’s journey courtesy of a TV movie. Given the standard length of these movies, the good news here is that it basically the equal of getting a three-episode final season, just all at one time.

Are we stunned by this news? Not in the slightest, given that this show did not have particularly great ratings at all, and while HBO does not rely solely on numbers and demo points to determine the future of their shows, they do have an impact. Unfortunately, none of the metrics showed enough evidence that subscribers are coming aboard the network just because of Jonathan Groff and company.

Still, we have to show some gratitude for the network in recognizing that many viewers did make an investment, and they should not be left out on a lurch. We wish other networks showed the same respect for their customers / viewers, who deserve some element of closure.

Here is what HBO specifically said in a statement today:

“After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special … We look forward to sharing this adventure with the show’s loyal fans.”
