That ‘Legend of Zelda’ – Netflix project may not be happening…
So when the idea first surfaced about Netflix potentially adapting “The Legend of Zelda” into a series that would also be a more family-friendly version of “Game of Thrones,” it was easily to be excited about the idea. Netflix rarely messes things up, except for maybe waiting too long to give us a Gob episode of “Arrested Development” season 4. Also, there is potential for it to be great, even if you are dealing with a main character who rarely speaks and a story that does bear some similarities from one game to the next. (For the record, “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” is our third-favorite game ever.)
Unfortunately, what we have learned right now is that this doesn’t seem to be happening. In commenting on the reports from earlier this year in a chat with Time Magazine, Nintendo President / CEO Satoru Iwata made it very clear that this is not something in the works right now.
“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information.”
Well, there’s always hope for that Hulu miniseries starring the Ice Climbers, right? Okay, we’re joking … but we’d probably watch that, too.
If there ever is anything further to report when it comes to this project, we will let you know! Also, sign up now if you want to score some additional TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Netflix.)
