‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Did Cate Blanchett want a role at some point?
We have to say here that this is a story that we’ve heard a thousand times before in various shapes and forms: Someone wanting to be a part of “Downton Abbey” who is already a part of the Hollywood elite. The majority of the time, what frustrates us about this story is that it is mostly just a way for a tabloid to get attention. Sometimes, we steer clear of it altogether, mostly out of fear that it was actually made up in some sort of elaborate plot to generate web traffic.
This time around, though, we are actually talking about something truthful in regards to “Downton Abbey”: She serious did want to appear on the show, or at least enough to put in a call at one point about it. Speaking on the ITV show “Lorraine” in promotion of “Cinderella” (which stars “Downton Abbey” actresses Lily James and Sophie McShera), she reportedly stated the following:
“I did have words, and I followed up with my agent. No call has yet been received … but I’m seeing [Lily and Sophie] again today, so I’ll get them to put a good word in.”
If we personally had to guess, though, we would say that the odds are not exactly in Blanchett’s favor of this happening. Just remember the variables here for a minute in that season 6 has already most-likely been plotted out, and if it turns out to be the final season (which has been rumored), Julian Fellowes would be even more hesitant to throw in popular names, even if Blanchett would bring the show attention. Its ratings are already so stellar that it really does not need attention.
Let’s just frame our final question like this: Who would you want to see on “Downton Abbey” before the series comes to a close? Share with a comment, and head over here to get some other TV updates on everything we cover, courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ITV.)
