‘Empire’ finale spoilers: Season 2 hopes for Jennifer Hudson?

Tonight, the end of the pop-culture movement will be here for “Empire,” as the Fox drama series comes to a close … at least for the time being. The show has already been renewed for a second season, and with that, the writers and producers are currently spending the majority of their time thinking about the future just as much as they are focusing on the past.

Given that almost every TV star out there would like to appear on this show, there will be quite a demand for new guest stars next season. Seemingly, there is also going to be a demand to bring back some from this season. Say, for example, Jennifer Hudson. As executive producer Danny Strong tells TV Guide, the show is still in the process of figuring out just how and when to bring back people:

“I can’t say what’s going to happen with her character because, to be honest with you, I don’t know … We’re just starting to talk about Season 2 now. I know we loved her and think she did a fantastic job, and she has this song in the finale that I just love, I think it’s one of the coolest of the season. So, you know, it’s certainly a possibility and she was lovely on set, so it could definitely happen.”

One of the other struggles that come with bringing people back on “Empire” specifically is that you’re dealing ultimately with a short season, and therein a short episode count. There may be more than 12 episodes next season, but we haven’t received any indication that we are going anywhere close to 22.
