‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: Will Cuba Gooding Jr. return?

It is not entirely common that we get a chance to write as much about a show’s upcoming season while the current one is airing as we’ve done with “Empire.” We presume that for the most part, this is just a function of the show being so darn popular in the first place. The ratings have been enormous, and the demand is going to be through the roof even after the first season ends Wednesday night.

One thing that almost everyone is currently curious about has to do with guest stars. For example, will we see another spot of Cuba Gooding Jr. as Puma? We definitely at least know that the actor himself is up for. Speaking to TVLine, he explained that he has a great relationship with Lee Daniels, so much so that he even signed on for the show at the last-minute as a way to help him out:

“Well, it’s funny, because [Empire creator] Lee Daniels and I are best friends, and we talk incessantly, and that role came about because an actor that was cast had a family emergency. It was a three episode arc and [Daniels] said, ‘Listen, can you just fly in tomorrow? Because they have to start filming tomorrow, and we’ll just make it the one episode.’ I said, ‘OK’, and I did it, and I left.”

Cuba has a rather crazy schedule for himself coming up. He’s going to be appearing in multiple episodes of “Forever” on ABC, and then after that, he will be gracing “American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson” as the title character. This is one of two new series coming up this year for executive producer Ryan Murphy; he also has “Scream Queens” coming out shortly.

Who from season 1 do you want to see back for more on “Empire”? Let us know with a comment.
