‘Community’ season 6 spoilers: Will Yvette Nicole Brown return at some point?
“Community” premieres on Yahoo Screen next week, and one of the biggest changes from the get-go is going to be not seeing Shirley around the one-time study group / Save Greendale Committee. Yvette Nicole Brown departed the show before production, citing the long production schedule the desire to help care more for those in her life. She has a new gig now on “The Odd Couple,” but the benefit to doing that is that multi-camera sitcoms typically don’t require anywhere near the same sort of time.
While it is not exactly clear if you’ll be seeing Shirley during the sixth season, Brown definitely is interested in coming back for another go … especially if that movie ever happens now that we’ve reached the other part of the famous milestone. Speaking to TVLine, she discussed her departure by pouring the praise on her former series:
“I’ve said from the beginning that if they want me back, I’ll go. It was always a time-spent-on-set issue, not a being-on-set issue. If they were to find a way for me to come back and I wouldn’t have to be there for 16-hour days, I would totally do it, because I love the show, I love my cast members and the crew is awesome. It was a very lovely parting. There was no animosity or hate on my side or from Sony or [series creator] Dan Harmon. When the movie happens, because I have complete faith in Community fans — they are not going to get this sixth season and not get this movie — I will hopefully be invited to take part, and I will happily do that.”
If there is a movie, we also hope that Donald Glover also finds his way back at some point. Chevy Chase’s Pierce is technically dead, but Harmon has already shown some creativity in finding ways to keep his spirit alive on the series.
In case you’ve missed it, there is increasing evidence that season 6 of the show will indeed be the last.
