‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Calista Flockhart joins Melissa Benoist series

The cast of “Supergirl” is still expanding, and today, what we’ve had a chance to learn who is going to be a major thorn in the side of Kara Zor-El. With that being said, she is most likely going to represent more of a professional adversary than someone she will be battling in costume in the near future.

Sources confirm that Calista Flockhart (“Brothers & Sisters,” “Ally McBeal”) has been cast in the regular role of Cat Grant on the series, who is going to be the boss of Melissa Benoist’s character. Not only that, but she heads the super-powerful corporation CatCo. She already has ties to the DC Comic universe, but as expected, everyone is going to be changed up in this adaptation.

We do like the casting here of Flockhart, and we’ve already said many times that we like the creative team behind the show, whether you are talking about someone like Ali Adler (“No Ordinary Family”) or Greg Berlanti (“Arrow”). This show has the potential to be great.

Of course, our primary concern is that it is airing on CBS, the network that is the king of procedural dramas. Are they going to try to turn “Supergirl” into a show where she takes on a very different villain every week, and few stories ever tie together? We would beg the show to follow the lines of “Arrow” or “The Flash,” who deliver a near-perfect mix.
