ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: Is Beckett thinking about a baby?
While children have never been necessarily at the forefront of conversation for Kate Beckett on “Castle,” we also cannot sit here and pretend like they have been no part of the show at all. Back in “The Good, the Bad, and the Baby,” we saw Beckett start to come to terms with the idea that she could be good with children despite her insecurities. Also, this is something that couples inevitably start to think about after marriage, even if Castle already has a grown-up daughter in Alexis.
While there is no guarantee that there will ever be a baby in the future for Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion’s characters, it seems like this is at least going to be a larger part of the conversation going forward. Speaking per TV Guide, David Amann said the following when it comes to questions that Beckett may ask herself sooner rather than later:
“Beckett is looking ahead … She’s trying to figure out what her next step is, and that encompasses family. She’s been driven for the better part of her adult life by the death of her mother, which is now resolved. Her relationship with Castle is settled, so she’s at a place now where she really needs to be thinking about, ‘What does she want that future to be?’ It seems like children are going to naturally be a part of that discussion.”
Do we want to see the two have a child, if that is what they really want from their future? Definitely, but we hope that this is more of a final-season plot. We actually think that “The Mentalist” really handled it the best way with its series finale last night. We’re not going to spoil everything here, but this was the way to give the characters what they wanted, without having to implement a story that is often unpopular when it progresses in real time.

“Unpopular when it progresses in real time”? How about it’s not unpopular in real life? Also, why must it progress in real time? I mean after all castle’s memory loss did not progress in real time. The memory loss arc has already taken more than 6 months to do nothing when it should have been resolved in no more than 2 episodes immediately following the memory loss ( some time warp might have been required). I guess everything is being saved for the final episode be it at the end of season 7 or season 10. Look at what appears to be saved for the final episode – Castle’s memory loss resolved, babies or no babies, Castle becoming an author of serious literature, Beckett becoming captain of her own precinct, Alexis graduating from college getting married and having children of her own, Martha getting married and moving out on her own, Beckett’s father getting married, etc, etc. some of these sound kinda shallow and not worth pursuing you know like the Castle memory loss.

PS. I am sure that the thought of baby vs no baby came up when Ryan and Jenny were trying to get pregnant. It probably has since occurred to Beckett every time she felt that her life was in danger because of not seeing her child as a baby and not seeing it grow up. Also, it would leave Castle as a single parent again. I would think that the proper order of things would be for Beckett to become captain of her own precinct. After she became captain she would not be in as dangerous of a position as she is as a detective and her working hours should be more regular. Then she should feel that things would be more reasonable for parenthood.
