‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 15 spoilers: What’s next for Stefan, Caroline?

Obviously, tonight’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was enormous for a variety of different reasons. Jeremy said goodbye, Caroline’s mother unfortunately passed away, and we continued to see the evolution of Damon.

In the midst of many of the sad moments, we do know that the Steroline kiss is something that many fans out there may still be smiling about. With that being said, though, is there really going to be a romance for Paul Wesley and Candice Accola’s characters moving forward? Right now, a kiss is a wonderful step forward, but this is also an emotionally vulnerable situation. How clearly is Caroline really thinking?

As executive producer Julie Plec told TVLine in an interview posted after tonight’s episode, these two still have some conversations that they will need to have moving forward:

“What’s the first conversation you have after your first kiss? Right now, something pretty dramatic has happened, so [next Thursday’s] episode is all about judging what and when and how that first conversation is going to go.”

Obviously, Caroline is going to continue to be distraught as she tries to mourn her mother and process her future. Stefan cares about her, but he doesn’t want to overreach his boundaries and try to rush anything. We’re just trying to get set up here for a potential slow burn; these two may be together by the end of the season, but we want to make sure that they are in a good place before that happens. They’ve taken their time so far, so why hurry now?
