‘Empire’ episode 5 preview: Cookie’s past, Lucious’ power come into play

So far, there’s no doubting that “Empire” has been quite the revelation for Fox. The ratings have been big, the buzz has been bigger, and this show almost immediately turned Taraji P. Henson and Terence Howard into big names.

While all of this has been pretty great, there is one little thing to remember here still: This show is still very much in the early portion of its run. There is a whole mess of drama still to come here, and that is both great and challenging at the same time. The great thing is that we’ve already got momentum; the challenge? You also have more expectations now that the show has achieved hit status. If something goes wrong, odds are that you’ll hear more about it.

What we can at least tell you right now, courtesy of the official synopsis, is that there is a story coming up that will tie into some of what Cookie has been through in the past. That always excites us to get to know more about characters so soon:

“Cookie receives an anonymous gift from an admirer that she believes might be a veiled threat from a person from her prison past. Meanwhile, Lucious takes charge of Hakeem’s first video shoot.”

Eventually, we do expect “Empire” to come a little bit back to earth, and next week may be a lot for it to compete with. After all, there is major competition across every network.
