‘The Mentalist’ season 7, episode 9 preview: Can Simon Baker’s Jane protect Abbott?

Clearly, Patrick Jane is a good friend to have. A dangerous friend to have, sure, but it feels like he is still a good man to have very much on your side. We saw him do what he could to help Lisbon on tonight’s new episode of “The Mentalist,” but moving into the next installment, the focus is going to be more about the Dennis Abbott character.

Remember the Abbott arc this season? Basically, it has revolved around his past at Rio Bravo coming back to haunt him. Well, that is going to happen in a huge way on “Copper Bullet,” the ninth installment of the season that is coming up next week. The synopsis below, in case you have not seen it already, gives you some further scoop in terms of what you can expect:

“When Abbott’s old boss, Agent Peterson, threatens Abbott’s career –and possibly his freedom – Jane devises a risky plan to protect his friend’s future.”

This is going to be an extremely important episode, and we wonder if it could specifically be the one that closes the book on the Abbott story. We have loved Rockmond Dunbar as an addition (especially this season), but with us approaching the final episodes of the season, we do assume that the show is really going to shift more towards being all about the longtime cast members and familiar faces for the series finale.
