‘The Fall’ season 3: Creator hopeful for Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan series’ future
As of right now, many viewers in America may be plowing through the entire second season of “The Fall” on Netflix. With that in mind, we do feel like the timing is appropriate to raise the following question: Will the be a third go-around?
This series is a co-production between the streaming service and BBC Two at this point, and we feel like the popularity of the show probably dictates it. However, that does not mean that an announcement is forthcoming anytime soon. What we can at least tell you right now is that creator Allan Cubitt seems to be somewhat optimistic, telling reporters (per HitFix) the following while at TCA this week:
“We’re in a situation where I’m very confident there will be a third season. But because of internal BBC situation at the moment, it hasn’t been officially announced … I think the story can continue, but I’ll have to reserve judgment on that, I think, until I get the green light and the go-ahead.”
Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 2 of “The Fall.”
What we are still curious about here is what the show will do when it comes to its cast. It feels like you need to have Gillian Anderson for sure to continue, giving that Stella Gibson is the face of the series. Anderson is rather busy these days, in between “Hannibal” and other projects. There is also still a contingent hoping to see “The X-Files” return as some sort of limited series on Fox.
Meanwhile, Jamie Dornan has seen his star rise significantly thanks to “Fifty Shades of Grey,” though its commercial appeal as a film is still to be seen. The season 2 finale left it ambiguous as to whether or not his character of Paul Spector is still alive.
We recently created a poll as to if you wanted to see more of Dornan on “The Fall” moving forward, so be sure to check that out! Also, sign up for some further TV updates on everything we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: BBC.)
