‘American Horror Story’ season 5 spoilers: FX, Ryan Murphy looking at big changes

Freak Show -Is FX listening to the criticism of “American Horror Story: Freak Show“? while we cannot necessarily say that, we are at least happy to sit here and say that they seem to be aware of the fact that four seasons into the running, the series really is starting to lose a little bit of steam. Personally, we feel like it has become more of a platform to show off famous people than a cohesive or coherent story.

The network was at the TCA Winter Press Tour today, and while present, John Landgraf (who is basically the boss man for all things FX) made it pretty clear that there will be a much bigger shake-up coming than we had between the disappointing “Coven” and the almost-as-disappointing “Freak Show”:

“One of the things I love so much about [the franchise] is that it can be radically, radically reinvented in terms of tone, setting, period, characters, cast… and I think there’s going to be an unusually large reinvention in between Book 4 and Book 5 relative to, say, between Book 3 and 4.”

While Landgraf was not able to say if we were going to be seeing more of Jessica Lange on the show moving forward (he said that casting decisions are mostly made by Ryan Murphy first and foremost), we know that it is unlikely that Sarah Paulson will be back in a large role, given her transition over to “American Crime Story.” The same can be said for Emma Roberts, who is heading to “Scream Queens.” Many other actors could also leave for pilot season.
