ABC’s ‘Resurrection’ season 2, episode 12 review: Bellamy, Preacher James fight over ‘world’s end’
It feels like a while since we wrote a “Resurrection” review, but an interesting thing happened in between then and now: The series started to really get good again.
When we were in the midway point of season 2, one of the biggest problems was that there was way too much going on, and not all of it made a whole lot of sense. Sooner or later, the series does need to give you some answers, and establish a clear narrative in the midst of confusion. The presence of Preacher James has in some ways brought that to the table, as his motivations have started to become clear. We have learned that his primary goal is very simple, and that is making sure that Rachael’s baby does not enter the world. He believes it to be the Antichrist, and he wants to ensure that this child does not have the control of the Returned at some point in the future.
We have at the heart of the story here a war between James and Bellamy over the control of the child, and what he or she really means to the future of this world. What makes this so strong is the moral ambiguity at the center of this, given that we really have no clue who is actually right.
What this episode ultimately provided us with was an excellent cliffhanger ending, which revolved for the most part around what we feel is the pending arrival of James to the Langston home. That has to be coming, right? The only thing equally shocking as this is the idea of millions of Returned popping up all over the world, which takes this story to another level. Grade: B+.

So now it’s suddenly about a devil child. I liked it better when there it was more sci-fi angle and less “good vs. evil”. Given, no one really knows who is right, but still… It just seems overly facile to suddenly abandon the science and mystery for religious mythology. `

We don’t know if it is a devil child… That’s just an assumption from a preacher. The kid’s power over the Returned implies interesting things though – whatever their source.
