‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch on fans, Golden Globes, more in ‘Ellen’ chat

Sherlock -Benedict Cumberbatch is a heck of a busy man these days. Even though he is rather busy working on the first “Sherlock” special to kick off season 4, he also made his first-ever appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” this week. In turn, he had a number of really great moments in here all about awards shows, his personal life, and also whether or not he still loves being the photobomb expert that he has become in a short amount of time.

First, let’s talk names. Specifically, Cumberb**ches. Is this the best name for fans? We know that for a while, Benedict was trying to convince them to change it to something that could be construed as something a little less potentially offensive. However, they apparently had an explanation:

“I just went, ‘Ladies this is wonderful, and I’m flattered, but has this not set feminism back a little bit? Empower yourselves if you’re going to [want to be] with a guy’ … But then they wrote back to me, ‘We didn’t mean any harm to feminism. We’re just having a bit of fun with your name.’”

Cumberbatch eventually ends up also taking baby-name suggestions for his unborn child, following the news that he and fiancee Sophie Hunter are expecting their first together. Many of the results here are actually quite hilarious.

In addition to being the star of the BBC series, Cumberbatch is also on a publicity tour for his movie “The Imitation Game,” which is considered by many to be a strong candidate to win a trophy or two at the Academy Awards.
