Golden Globes spotlight: Will ‘Jane the Virgin’ defeat ‘Orange is the New Black,’ ‘Silicon Valley’
Sometimes, we love the audacity of the Golden Globes when it comes to their nominations. It’s almost like they care, and what to give the impression that they are trying to shake things up a little bit!
For an example of this, look at their nominees for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy. Of the group, three of them are new shows from the past year, and there is also a second-year series in here, as well. When “Girls” is the oldest show on the list, and also ironically the only show that probably should not have been nominated, you are doing a very good job. Our goal here is simple: Trying to figure out who is going to win.
The nominees – “Jane the Virgin” (The CW), “Orange is the New Black” (Netflix), “Silicon Valley” (HBO), “Girls” (HBO), “Transparent” (Amazon).
What should win – Give us “Silicon Valley.” A sharp, amazingly funny satire from Mike Judge of a world that has not been spoofed enough on TV these days. Bonus points for all of the wonderful performances here across the board by Thomas Middleditch and the rest of the cast. Second place for us would be “Transparent,” though either one of them would be a serious darkhorse to win the actual award.
What will win – We’re going with “Orange is the New Black” here, even with some controversy over whether or not it is really a comedy. It’s a great show regardless, and that matters most. We would put “Jane the Virgin” in second, and you should watch out for it here. This show has a ton of momentum going for it, and with it being the first CW show ever nominated, we actually came close to picking it here.
