‘The Blacklist’ season 2 spoilers: More on the Tom Keen – Raymond Reddington history

The second season of “The Blacklist” is currently still on NBC, and there is one important story thread that has to be addressed pretty early on: What the connection between Tom Keen and Raymond Reddington really is. One of the big reveals near the end of the fall finale is that Ryan Eggold’s character has been working with the career criminal in some capacity, and kept it from Liz Keen the entire time that she was interrogating him.

While it is not entirely clear when or how this story will be addressed on the show moving forward, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp is kind enough to share a little bit more scoop right now in a new interview with TVLine:

“Tom clearly has some sort of past that Liz is not aware of, that involves Red … We will continue to tell that story. We don’t dive right into it in the Super Bowl episode, but that does start to bubble up later in the back half of the season.”

So why not touch on it much in the Super Bowl episode? The only possible answer that we can offer up for you right now is that the show really wants to make this episode relatively easy for new fans to dive into, and not bury it with an extreme amount of mythology. If they can pull this off, then they may have a ratings bump big enough to help them out a while.

Remember, there is no guarantee that a Super Bowl show equals more viewers. “New Girl” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” failed to sustain any of their numbers from this past big game.
