‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Can Leeza Gibbons talk her way to a win?

In looking at the roster for the upcoming season of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Leeza Gibbons is one of the more interesting choices. We could see her being a big player this season, at least due to some of what she brings to the table. However, at the same time we have to ask something else: Is she really who Donald Trump wants at the end? The fact that she is known mostly to older audiences could hurt her in this demo-focused world.

Claim to fame – Hosting her own daytime talk show “Leeza” in the 1990s. She has also hosted “Entertainment Tonight,” been an entrepreneur, and appeared on one of the earlier seasons of “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC. (So have Vivica A. Fox and Shawn Johnson!)

Advantages – Gibbons has made her entire career out of talking, and we have to think that this will help in the boardroom. She probably also has a huge Rolodex, and while she may not be able to stand outside and attract onlookers at a task, she will know someone who can. Also, she has business experience, and with her history, she had to be creative to solve problems on many occasions.

Disadvantages – As we mentioned, we don’t think people will flock out to see Leeza Gibbons on a street corner. She will have to be super-creative. Also, she has to avoid the easy target that may be on her in the boardroom; she is seven years older than anyone else on her team, and therefore could have trouble relating to some of them.

Charity – Leeza’s Care Connection, an organization to help caregivers navigate through difficult times.

Prediction – Like Vivica A. Fox before her, we could see Leeza being one of the first out, or lasting pretty long. We don’t know if we see her winning, but if she really hits some home runs in the competition proper, maybe she has an outside shot of making it to the finale.
