ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7, episode 10 review: Lanie, Esposito, and Rick shockers abound

Castle -Throughout the past few weeks, there has been a little bit of hype around “Bad Santa,” the winter finale of “Castle.” After watching it, we actually think the original title about a “mobster little Christmas” really was more fitting.

In the end, the criminal at the center of the story was not a shock: A police officer who was doing some dirty deeds on the side. He was arrested, and that was that.

What mattered more was what came after that. In an effort to ensure that this criminal was not able to speak out, they were killed on their way out of the station. Given Castle’s ties to organized crime while working on the case, Gates informed him that he was no longer allowed to consult on any cases. Effectively, he was fired.

Does this mean that the Captain does not trust him? We didn’t read it like that, but it is a little more evidence that somehow out there clearly wants to ruin him. It’s not the sort of cliffhanger we were hoping for, but it is still something.

As for the Lanie story, this was entertaining! Unfortunately, we also figure that some Espanie ‘shippers are going to be upset with the ending. These two are not going to be staying together. Instead, they realized through having to fake being a serious couple that they are not in love the same way that Castle and Beckett are. Is it frustrating? Sure, but we’re trying to figure out if we are angry just because we liked them, or because of the story itself. Sometimes, the truth is that not all relationships work out.

There was a slight disappointment here in not getting a lot of information directly about Castle’s kidnapping, but “Bad Santa” was still enjoyable TV … at least for a mob story. We’ve never been a big fan of those. Grade: B.
