‘Two and a Half Men’ season 12, episode 6 video: Alan tries to be the cool dad

Louis -Was it a smart idea for “Two and a Half Men” to introduce a new character like Louis at this point in the series? At the moment, we are still unsure about it. We understand that the motivation here was to bring the show back somewhat to its roots, which was two men trying to balance out their relationships with raising a child at the same time.

However, the problem here was Cousin Oliver syndrome. This character was introduced near the end of “The Brady Bunch,” with the goal being to bring in someone who had the original spirit of the show … and what had so many people watching in the first place.

Ultimately, we like Louis, and we don’t feel like the kid is necessarily trying to just be Jake all over again. He is artistic, innocent, and does not seem to be all that interested in farts. The problem here is that it really does not matter that much whether or not he is a good character; it may still be too far of a bridge to cross for many fans who have seen the show evolve. To some of them, this may still feel a little bit like a little bit of regurgitation.

The show is at the end of the day a silly comedy, and one that relies mostly on just ridiculous humor in order to get by. We don’t expect it to really reinvent the wheel, or do anything that shocks us.
