‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 finale: Emily Kinney on Beth’s move

Slabtown Beth -For the most part, we understand if you are still reeling somewhat from what happened on “The Walking Dead” finale Sunday night on AMC. We’re right there with you. There are some things that we expected to see, and that included a character death; however, we did not expect to see it in the way that it actually took place.

So why did Beth make the moves that she did? This is part of what has us so perplexed after this episode, since it never quite felt like the character really had to act in the way that she did when Dawn was pressing to keep Noah. Had she not stepped forward to confront her, she would probably still be alive.

So why make the move stepping forward? Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter after the fact, Emily Kinney tried to explain Beth’s actions with the following:

“I felt like it was a last-minute. The scissors were if she needed them. I felt like she was overconfident, she got what she wanted [to reunite with her group] and she wanted more. It’s like she’d gotten stronger and tougher and was back with her group and, oh one more thing: I want to get Dawn. And it was a mistake. It was this little moment of overconfidence.”

This feels like one of those TV moments where trying to fully understand what was in Beth’s head may ultimately prove to be futile. We did not quite understand her move at the end of the episode, and maybe we never fully will since it didn’t feel like Beth had to die. Then again, it only seems right in a zombie apocalypse that people would make mistakes.
