‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4, episode 9 review: Did Anna and Elsa reunite, and stop the Snow Queen?

Once Upon a Time -We can definitely imagine Sunday night’s “Once Upon a Time” being at least somewhat polarizing, in particular to those who prefer the story of the main characters to the “Frozen” gang.

After all, so much of this episode was focused on Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Prince Hans, and the Snow Queen, as we saw the two sisters at the center of the story finally reunite in Storybrooke, thanks to wishes, the power of family, and all of that. Really, the whole logic behind Anna turning up was very convenient and somewhat random, but the moment was so sweet that it was hard to be upset.

What made this episode interesting to us was that even though there was this happy reunion, there was also a sense of despair and foreboding in here, as all of the characters collectively realized that the spell was inevitably going to come, and in some ways destroy them. This is why so many took precautions, said their goodbyes, and even tried to hide out. This was clearly not an episode with a resolution, but instead a very ominous cliffhanger.

The biggest question mark right now is Rumpelstiltskin, who seems mostly interested in getting the heck out of dodge rather than doing anything that could be construed as good or just. This will probably lead to a number of problems down the road with him and Belle, even if there have not been too many of them yet.

The characters that you should be worried about the most right now are probably Captain Hook and Regina, given that they have evolved the most since their early days on the show, and they stand to lose a lot here. This episode, despite being very “Frozen” heavy, was still strong, and a good precursor to what comes next. Grade: B+.
