ABC’s ‘Cristela’ lands full-season order; ‘Selfie’ to air rest of series on Hulu

For those who enjoy ABC’s “Cristela,” the good news today is that you are going to get a chance to see a whole lot more of the show moving deeper into this season.

The network confirmed today that the Cristela Alonzo underdog comedy, which has drawn for the most part solid reviews, will receive a full season of 22 episodes. This makes it one of the few reasonably comedy success stories of the year. ABC already canceled “Manhattan Love Story” and “Selfie,” and while they do have a full season going to “black-ish,” there have been other canceled comedies on other networks including “A to Z” and “Bad Judge” (ABC) or “Mulaney” (Fox). “The McCarthys” is going to almost surely be canceled, and it is only a real matter of time there.

To us if we were ABC, we would figure out a way so that new viewers could binge-watch all of the “Cristela” episodes over the upcoming hiatus. That way, it gets more of an opportunity to let people know that the show exists! It airs on a rough night in Fridays, and it needs some sort of additional outlet to get a season 2.

Speaking of “Selfie” earlier, we figured that we’d also let you know today that every Tuesday from here on out, the remaining episodes of the Karen Gillan comedy are going to air on Hulu. The tweet below from creator Emily Kapnek serves as proof of that. We wish that Hulu would give this show (which improved greatly since its woeful pilot) a shot, but that seems very unlikely. It wasn’t on the air long enough to find a following.

Networks should announce their decisions on all of their shows in April or May, so we’ll have more word on the future of “Cristela” then.
