ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 10 spoilers: Scott Foley on Jake, Fitz, and finding Olivia

Jake -Obviously, we start this “Scandal” article off with a spoiler warning: Don’t read on if you haven’t finished last night’s finale yet!

For most of the episode, it looked like the biggest cliffhanger was going to be that somehow, Rowan the powerful cockroach managed to cheat death once again. We were so surprised by this that, at least until the dance sequence in the closing minutes, we didn’t think anything else was going to happen. That changed quickly when we saw Olivia be captured the moment that Jake left the room.

To say that this puts Jake in an interesting position would be the biggest understatement ever, given that he now has an avenue in which he can work with Fitz, and that is something that seemed to be completely dead as a possibility a few weeks ago. As Scott Foley tells The Hollywood Reporter after the finale, he hopes that this capture of Kerry Washington’s character will be the catalyst for the President and the often-powerhouse for B613 to actually team up to find her:

“I hope so. I always go back to the initial seed of that is the Fitz and Jake relationship — their history together in the military and being friends and brothers in that respect. I know how difficult it is, especially for men of a certain age, to make new friends. I think it would be a shame if Fitz and Jake couldn’t come together at least on Olivia’s behalf to do something to find her.”

We don’t want to see Jake and Fitz hate each other for the entirety of the show, and largely for one simple reason: That is no fun. We much prefer the show being a complicated tapestry, one where characters alternate between arguing with one another and finding common ground.

For Jake, we imagine the most difficult part of this partnership would be having the knowledge now that Olivia does still have some feelings for Fitz, but he has to work with him anyway.
