‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: The story the winter finale will tell
In what is probably a surprise to no one right now, “Agents of SHIELD” is building towards something enormous in their upcoming winter finale (airing on December 9), and it also happens to be something tied into some of what we’re seeing right now in the search for the ancient city.
By the time this episode airs, you are finally going to see a showdown of great proportion … and hopefully it is going to be everything that we are hoping for. Speaking in a statement per TVLine, executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen had the following message to pass along:
“S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA converge on the alien city they’ve been racing towards, in a desperate fight to gain control of the obelisk … In the end, our team — and our show — will be changed forever.”
How much can the show really change? This is probably a question that we are admittedly going to be asking for a while, mostly just because of the organic nature of the show. What we mean by that is that due to the way in which this show is tied into the larger Marvel universe, it’s a little more difficult potentially to alter the very fabric of everything. The changes have to be concrete enough that they can be explained easily in the movies, given that we would at least assume that SHIELD is touched upon in them. There cannot be anything so complex that “Avengers: Age of Ultron” spends half an hour playing catch-up.
The journey to this city is going to begin with the next new episode which is airing in just under two weeks after taking a week off for Thanksgiving.
