‘Gotham’ spoilers: More young Poison Ivy, but no Harley Quinn, at least for now
What is it about so many TV shows talking about Harley Quinn? To us, it really comes down to one simple thing: The character’s popularity. Her solo comic series is extremely popular, and there is still so much that can be mined from her creatively. “Arrow” featured her in a cameo during “Suicide Squad,” and there was also one from later in the season left on the cutting room floor.
It was due to much of this that we were admittedly starting to wonder a little bit about whether or not there were some rights issues that were keeping an appearance from Dr. Quinzel from happening on TV. By this, we mean that maybe DC Comics wanted to save her until the “Suicide Squad” movie, given that they recently cast Margot Robbie in the role there.
Luckily, we feel like the following “Gotham” information suggests that DC may not be holding onto Harley with an iron grip. While executive producer Bruno Heller tells Entertainment Weekly that there is no Harley Quinn coming anytime soon, this is a story that they plan to tell eventually:
“One of the things about the size and scope and ambitious of this production is that—it’s not that there’s lots of chefs in the kitchen, but there’s a lot of people with opinions and views and inside knowledge … That aspect of the show—which characters to use and when — is a source of constant discussion. And that may well have been an issue that came up and was dropped. We haven’t got Harley Quinn in it. Riddler’s girlfriend is coming up. And Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on, but so far no.”
We may be one of the biggest Harley Quinn fans on the planet, but even with that, we are still not entirely sure we want to see the character surface on this show ever. There’s just no way for it to make sense, since we feel like the character would probably only be a baby in this world right now.
As for some other subjects, the show plans to show you how Robin’s parents met, even if you don’t see the Boy Wonder on the show at any point in the near future. Also, be prepared for at least one more appearance from the young version of Poison Ivy. Just don’t expect too much of this in the fall finale airing next week.
Do you think “Gotham” should ever be including Harley, or are they messing with the ages of many of their villains too much already?
