‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 9 reaction: Director on Mark Boone Junior scene

Bobby -Let’s face it: You’re probably still feeling a little emotional over this past episode of “Sons of Anarchy.” We don’t blame you, and the simplest reason for that is simply because we are right there with you. The last thing that we ever wanted to see was a beloved character like (SPOILER!) Bobby die, but that is just the way things happen sometimes on these sort of devastating drama shows. You never lose the characters who are awful people early; it is always the ones that will devastate you the most.

As you would expect, losing Mark Boone Junior on the show was a hard thing for the cast and crew, and the same can be said for “What a Piece of Work Is Man” director Peter Weller, who acts on the show and has helmed many others in the past. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he admitted that he teared up the moment that he first learned that this moment was coming:

“I’m a real crybaby. I weep as I read it. I weep at everything. So I’ve got to extract my emotions for a moment and look at it objectively. The dramatic event is a.) a horrible surprise and b.) a realization that Jax is way out of his league. And lastly, you want to leave it with a moment of sadness but an internal moment of vengeance coming.”

In some ways, you can draw a nice parallel between the deaths of Opie and Bobby, at least in that both of these deaths were almost something that really needed to happen in order to propel the story further with Jax, and make him really start to boil over emotionally. Given how angry he already was about Tara, this could take it to new heights.
