‘White Collar’ season 6, episode 2 preview: Is Matt Bomer’s Neal finally on his way to freedom?
Throughout the course of “White Collar,” one of the largest story threads has consistently been whether or not Neal Caffrey can ever break free from the confines of the FBI. These are people who have forced him basically to work with him to take down some of the most-brilliant thieves in the world.
However, now may be the time when he finally has a little bit of leverage. The short synopsis below for next week’s new episode “Return to Sender” says almost everything you need to know:
“The FBI agrees to grant Neal his freedom if he can bring down the Pink Panthers once and for all.”
This is the opportunity for a reasonably happy end for Matt Bomer’s character, and it is definitely one that is earned. At the end of season 5, it actually felt for a few minutes like he was going to be a free man; however, that was stripped away from him rather quickly.
The unfortunate thing for Neal right now is that taking down the Pink Panthers, one of the most-notorious criminal organizations in the world, is going to be no easy task in the slightest. As a matter of fact, it could be the sort of thing that drives him completely up the wall and puts his life at risk.
Therefore, the options Neal has right now are to take the risk with the Panthers and hope for the best, or don’t do it and be prepared to settle for the status quo. When has the latter ever been true for Neal?

I think the first new episode had a certain sadness about it. Rebecca’s words about the end of con man being death or imprisonment seemed to upset Neal. I want the next episode to see Neal clean up the pink panthers and get his freedom and be happy. Happy endings for all the characters.
